Axis opened in Canberra in 1991 on a simple belief: exceptional hair begins with exceptional people — and service that reflects humble, home-style hospitality. Adam Ciaccia wasn't a founder — he started his apprenticeship in 1999, quickly earning a reputation as one of Canberra's best haircutters, and in time a national and international reputation for his craft. In 2008 Adam became a partner, and in 2012 purchased majority ownership, building Axis into one of the most decorated salons in the ACT.
Axis relocated from Barry Drive — where it began in 1991 — to the Lonsdale Street salon in 2012. In 2022, the post-pandemic environment gave cause for reflection, and after a decade on Lonsdale Street we closed that chapter. In 2023 we reopened at The Grounds in Braddon: a space designed to focus on boutique hairdressing. Today Axis is led by Adam, Michelle and Jordan, supported by a diverse team of hairdressers with over fifty years of combined experience and a young, energetic vision for what's next.
